Bob Henderson, who was on the Whittier City Council at the time of this interview, discusses the preservation of the Whittier Hills. His timeline begins in the late 1970s when a developer had proposed building condominiums on the hillside at the end of Greenleaf Avenue. He describes the formation of the Friends of the Whittier Hills. He talks about the acquisition of land for preservation and various organizations that played a role including the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, Trust for Public Lands and the Whittier-Puente Hills Conservation Authority. The interview closes with a discussion of the formation of the Joint Powers Agreement between the Los Angeles County Sanitation District and Whittier City.
